Currently, the fee is $4 per room each night. However, a proposed ordinance would change the fee from $4 a night to 2.3%. For example, if a room was $400 a night, the new fee would be around $9. Council Bill 120641, sponsored by councilmember Sara Nelson, would modify the Seattle Tourism Improvement Area, which focuses on boosting tourism downtown. The proposal would also apply to funds when it comes to meetings. The goal of the change is to generate enough funds when it comes to making Seattle competitive in advertising. CB 120641 is expected to be discussed during Wednesday morning’s Seattle City Council Economic Development, Technology and City Light Committee meeting. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
