Following the deal, effective November 1, 2023, Maiyan Luxury Resort will be rebranded as Sarova Maiyan Nanyuki, becoming the ninth property under the Sarova Hotels & Resorts brand.

This adds to the Sarova Stanley and Sarova Panafric in Nairobi, Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort and Spa in Mombasa, Sarova Mara Game Camp in Masai Mara, Sarova Woodlands in Nakuru, Sarova Imperial in Kisumu, Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge in Nakuru and Sarova Shaba Game Lodge in Samburu.

The hotel chain was founded in Kenya in 1972 by the G.S. Vohra and John Ngata Kariuki families and has grown to become among the top hotels in the country. Sarova has tapped into the void that was left by Hilton, which scaled down its operations last year by shutting down its iconic Nairobi CBD hotel. The shut down of the Intercontinental hotel in 2019 left Sarova Stanley as the only five star rated hotel operating in the Nairobi's Central business District.

According to the management the new partnership marks a milestone in the indigenous hospitality groups' commitment to expanding its footprint in Kenya. Sarova Group Managing Director, Jimi Kariuki said, the Nanyuki based outlet will benefit from the franchises’ strong connections with business suppliers both online and offline. "Maiyan Resort's values align seamlessly with our own, making this partnership an exciting opportunity," said Kariuki.

The Mount Kenya region, especially Laikipia County, is witnessing a surge in interest and demand from both domestic and international travellers. Maiyan Luxury Resort Chairman, James Mworia said through the deal, Maiyan staff would learn and implement best practices from an experienced brand. “It's a win-win situation for the entire Mount Kenya tourism circuit, as we collectively work towards enhancing the region's appeal," said Mworia.
